Watershed is an urban justice-minded church community in the heart of the city of Charlotte. We live and breath in one of the most eclectic/creative neighborhoods in the city- Plaza Midwood, literally overlooking downtown, or uptown as they call it here.
Our micro-communities (small groups called 'blocs') are at capacity- which is very humbling and just plain incredible. They (the blocs & discipleship groups) are reading things like Richard Rohr, Rob Bell, Tim Keller and Greg Boyd and digging deeply into scripture as well. Meanwhile we're also seeing lots of people enter into a deep relationship with Jesus for the first time-which is life giving. And humbling. Much of our band at Watershed is comprised of musicians who have first come into relationship with Jesus here within our community.
We have straight, gay, white, black, latino, old, young, 'churched' and unchurched, bankers and artists in our community. This is not a suburban church and we are need of someone who longs for that type of setting in which to express themselves and give of themselves. Our teaching in our gatherings and micro communities drink deeply of the NT Wright vein in theological richness and we are pared down/reflective in our worship via music expression. We're inclusive yet contemplative. We're about question asking not solution doling out. We're about ongoing process not one time prayers. We're about justice as spiritual discipline via giving of ourselves rather than just check-writing.
(Just to give you a bit of a history). Our staff is close. Many of our staff have either been long time friends who moved with us here to start Watershed or have surfaced because they became so valuable as volunteers or leaders in our community that having them on staff became a non-negotiable!
As a community, we're diverse, we're thriving and growing and we're in need of expanding our staff. Simply put, we are in search of worship leader/creative arts staff member. Someone who we feel God would want to use as another co-contributer to how the story here is unfolding.
Thanks for taking the time to catch a glimpse of who we are. While we will read every submission for this position we will not respond to every submission. Also, we acknowledge that there are quite a few questions to consider in this process. We encourage you to take your time responding over the course of a couple sessions. (Hence the save button!) Our hope is to get as much of a picture of who you are as well as provide you with a sense of who we are by the questions we ask.
Much love and appreciation to you for engaging our search for the person God is looking for.
Thanks.
Watershed Staff.
