Your attendance during the "Training Global Teachers for Global Classrooms” conference means that you agree to participate in a three-part evaluation plan spread over two years (starting in 2011 and ending in 2013), including electronic pre- and post-assessments, focus groups (random and could be conducted via Skype, Adobe Connect Webinars or conference calls) and follow-up surveys as part of the requirements outlined by the Longview Foundation grant to ensure lessons learned during the conference are incorporated into Pre-K-20 classrooms.
Contents for concurrent breakout sessions:
1. Resources. This stream will foster a discussion of the importance and purpose of internationalizing the classroom, providing insight into materials available for classroom use. Content rich materials such as films and literature, opportunities for experiential learning abroad, and language immersion programming are among the topics that will be presented and explored.
2. Pedagogy. This strand will address the “how” behind internationalization, and explore how to translate theory into practice. The breakout sessions will center on internationalization as it relates to teacher training; how best practices can be implemented in Louisiana to build a community of educators who can learn from the examples of other states and world-class schools that have successfully internationalized their curriculum; and how to collaborate with international experts and policy makers on promoting global competence through the curriculum.
3. Technology. This strand will explore how to harness the power of technology to bring the world into the classroom. Teachers will learn the tools, strategies and resources needed in the global teacher’s toolbox to incorporate global content across disciplines and connect with classrooms and schools around the world.
4. Curriculum development. This strand will focus on designing lessons across various disciplines that integrate international perspectives. The state education agency and the Teacher Preparation and Certification program will design a session to explore follow-up opportunities for participants to continue making connections, sharing knowledge and building effective networks to support global learning.
