Photo Requirements

  • Photo must be in full color;
  • Solid colored background, preferably white or a light color;
  • Recent headshot taken in full-face view directly facing the camera;
  • Taken with a neutral facial expression (preferred) or a natural smile, and with both eyes open;
  • No hats or sunglasses - exception is religious head coverings;
  • Accessories such as headbands and Bluetooth headsets cannot be worn. Minimum jewelry is allowed;
  • Nothing can be obstructing your face;
  • Blurry and pixelated images cannot be used;
  • Photo must be of an individual. No group photos

 

 

Dimensions and File Requirements

·        Minimum: 480 x 640 pixels or 1.6” x 2.13”

·        Maximum: 1200 x 1600 pixels or 4” x 5.33”

·        Photos must be in .jpg or .bmp format.

·        Photos must be at least 50KB and no more than 2MB in file size.

Color

·        The image must be in full color in RGB color space which is the common output digital cameras.

Camera Position

  • The camera should be placed at the eye level of the person being photographed and at least 4 feet (1.25 meters)
  • Minimize the distance between the person being photographed and the background to reduce shadows on the background
  • Make sure to include the person’s upper body and have space above the head in the viewfinder or screen display of your
  • Ensure the background is well lit, white or off-white, and free of patterns, objects, textures, ect.

Proper Lighting Arrangement and Background Illumination

 

If you are setting up a proper area to take photos, then consider:

  • Positioning light sources on both sides of the person to avoid shadows on the face
  • Using a light source to illuminate the background behind the person to avoid shadows on the background
  • Try to eliminate shadows that are caused by overhead lighting

 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

 

What pose?

Individuals must directly face the camera. Profile shots will not be accepted. Their expression should be neutral with both eyes open and directly facing the camera. Photos with unusual expressions and squinting will not be accepted

 

Can eyeglasses be worn for the photo?

Eyeglasses worn on a daily basis can be worn for the photo. However, there should be no reflections from the eyeglasses that obscure the eyes. Glare can be avoided with a slight downward tilt of the glasses or by removing the glasses or by turning off the camera flash.


Can a hat be worn for the photo?

Individuals may only wear a hat or head covering if they wear it daily for religious purposes. Their full face must be visible and head covering cannot obscure hairline or cast shadows on face.

 

Can a digital camera be used to take photos?

Yes, a digital camera can be used. Most webcams and mobile phones cannot provide images of sufficient quality.

 

Can I remove the red-eye from photo?

It is acceptable to use the red-eye reduction option on the digital camera when taking photos. However, you cannot use any photo editing tool to digitally remove the red-eye from photos. In general, you are not allowed to digitally enhance or alter the photo to change the appearance in any way.

VIEW GUIDLINES, TERMS, & CONDITIONS


Agreement. Use of this credential by the bearer constitutes the bearer’s agreement and the agreement of the bearer’s employer to the terms stated below.  Compliance with these terms is a condition of all uses permitted by this credential.  Any unauthorized use of this credential or violation of any term of this credential automatically and immediately revokes all permissions granted in this credential and subjects the bearer to ejection from the stadium and possible prosecution for criminal trespass. This credential must be surrendered upon demand by Major League Soccer, L.L.C. (“MLS”).

Credential Use.  This credential is issued solely to provide stadium access to an individual with a legitimate working function at a game involving a member of MLS, solely to perform such function. The bearer must be on a specific assignment as an employee or agent for the organization to which this credential is issued. It is forbidden to lend, sell or otherwise transfer this credential.

Permitted Use of MLS Events.  The filming, taping, photographing or other recording, or broadcast, description, account or other publication or reporting, or other transmission, distribution, sale, or other use in any and all media now existing or invented in the future (“Media Uses”) of MLS games, including excerpts thereof, or other occurrences at the stadium (collectively, “MLS Events”) is limited to current news coverage by accredited organizations in the ordinary course of their business. Television and radio stations may use excerpts of MLS Events only pursuant to MLS’s news access guidelines, receipt of which is acknowledged by such stations. These permissions may be revoked at any time by MLS.  Any other use of MLS Events, including without limitation, books, motion pictures, posters, interactive products, advertising, promotional contests, sweepstakes or other trade or merchandising uses, requires the prior specific written agreement of MLS.

Rights.  The rights to any Media Use or any other use of MLS Events, including without limitation, all copyright, trademark and other property or ownership rights in MLS Events and in any Media Use thereof, are reserved to and shall remain the sole property of MLS, except to the extent of any rights expressly conferred by this credential or by written agreement of MLS. 

Release of Liability. The bearer of this credential and his or her employer assume all risk and danger of personal injury and all other hazards arising from or related in any way to stadium access, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless MLS, its member teams, other agents and employees from and against all liability, loss, damages or expense resulting from or arising out of the bearer’s presence at the stadium.

Publicity. The bearer grants permission to MLS and its licensees to use the bearer’s image, likeness, actions and statements, in perpetuity, in any Media Use relating to any MLS Event in any context for any purpose, including commercial or promotional purposes, without further authorization from or compensation to the bearer.

 

No Personal Use.  Credential bearers may not request autographs, take non-work related photographs or make any other personal use of this credential or the stadium access conferred by this credential.
