Some notes -
Usually, a Catholic wedding needs at least six months notice to the celebrant.
In addition to this ----
The Federal Government also requires that wedding notice can be given to the celebrant up to 18 months prior to the wedding and must be given no later than a month prior to a wedding.
Catholic priests and deacons can conduct weddings as long as at least one of the parties are baptised Catholic. Usually, Catholics are required to be married in a Catholic church building. Permission for truly exceptional circumstances is not automatic.
The Federal Government and the Church both strongly advise couples to undertake a marriage preparation course well before the wedding date.
{Both parties, whether Catholic or not, must be free to marry according to the Catholic rite, so any and all previous marriages which ended by civil divorce - by either party - need to be annulled by a catholic tribunal prior to any preparations for a new marriage. This process is not always short and is not automatically given - for inquiries about prior marriages, please contact matrimonial tribunal - which deals with previous marriages - at
