Applying and testing to become a police officer is a multi-step process.
Are you interested in becoming part of the Ellensburg Police Department family and in making a difference for the Citizens of Ellensburg? Do you have a passion for helping others? If you are interested in becoming an Ellensburg Police Officer, the following are the steps used in our recruitment process:
1) Pass the initial written and physical agility test conducted through Public Safety Testing. To learn more about the testing requirements and to view the testing schedule (dates, times, and location) please visit www.PublicSafetyTesting.com. Both tests are conducted on the same day. When identifying which police department you are interested in, select the Ellensburg Police Department so we receive your test results.
2) Once candidates take and pass both tests, their scores are sent to the City of Ellensburg's Human Resources Department.
3) As openings occur, candidates will receive, via mail or email, notification about the position opening, and the next step - to complete a City of Ellensburg employment application. If an application is submitted by the deadline and the candidate's score meets the cut-off set by the Civil Service Commission, candidates are then invited to participate in the oral board exam. If a passing score is received from the oral board exam, names are placed on the eligibility list.
4) The Ellensburg Police Department vets eligible candidates including passage of an extensive background check, an interview by the background officer, Chief’s interview, polygraph, psychological exam, physical test, and drug and alcohol screening.
