A sense of belonging is crucial for students to thrive in their learning environments. By establishing a supportive and inclusive culture from the beginning, educators can create an environment where every student feels valued, accepted, and connected to their peers and school community.

In this webinar, we will explore the definition of belonging, critical indicators of belonging and othering, designing for belonging, and shaping belonging at our schools.

Through insightful ideas, interactive discussions, and practical examples, this webinar will equip school leaders with actionable strategies and resources to start the school year with a strong foundation of inclusivity and belonging.

Participants will gain valuable insights and practical ideas to continue to create an environment where every student feels safe, appreciated, supported, accepted, and ready to learn.

THE FINE PRINT:
- This session is free for participants from SAIS member schools.
- The fee for non-member school participants is $25 per person.
- The Zoom link will be included in the reminder emails sent 24 hours and 2 hours prior to the start time.
- The session will be recorded and a link will be emailed to all registrants within 72 business hours.

Dr. Yerko SepĂșlveda is the director of community engagement and belonging at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, SC. He is an experienced teacher-trainer, consultant, administrator, teacher, and college instructor with a strong background in leadership, educational innovation, student-centered learning, and DEIJB initiatives and research. He is also a published author of several refereed articles and book chapters. Yerko holds a B.A. in English and education, an M.A. in applied linguistics, an M.Ed. in bilingual education and diversity studies, and a Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics with a focus on intercultural communication. He also serves as a national and international leader in the following programs:

  • Mentor in the Aspiring Leaders of Color program offered by AIELOC (Association of International Educators and Leaders of Color)
  • Instructional coach for Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he has facilitated learning for teachers in over 18 countries
  • Faculty member at the Student Diversity Leadership Conference hosted by NAIS
