Critical Implications for Student Well-Being

Tuesday, April 25, 2023
2:00-3:00 PM Eastern / 1:00-2:00 PM Central

The CDC's Youth Risk Behavior Survey recently highlighted that, nationally, 1 in 3 high school girls reported that they seriously considered suicide and that girls, students of color, and LGBTQQI+ students reported struggling more with well-being concerns, thoughts of suicide, and substance use than their peers. The report paints an alarming picture and highlights the critical importance of protective factors such as belonging and school connectedness, calling on school leaders and educators to strengthen their efforts to support well-being.

This workshop will introduce a holistic, public-health-informed approach to creating a culture of prevention and support at school. Participants will review research findings that highlight common concerns faced by students today and discuss evidence-based strategies for brief conversations with students that have demonstrated impact on student well-being and belonging.
